Salt caverns

The project “Grøn Balancekraft”

In the summer of 2012 AkzoNobel contacted CEMTEC with a request for assistance in a study on whether their used salt caverns located west of Hobro can be used as storage for green gasses such as hydrogen.
This was the beginning of a project, which was named “Grøn Balancekraft”.

The aim of the project was to shed light on how surplus wind- and solarenergy via electrolysis can be stored as energy in Akzo Nobel’s salt caverns, and hereinafter be converted to electricity and used when there is shortage in the electricity grid.
